What makes manufacturing searches different
Vietnam has a large manufacturing workforce and a comparatively small pool of people who have run a plant well. The gap between those two facts is where most manufacturing searches get difficult.
A plant manager who has genuinely owned safety, quality, output and cost at a site of meaningful scale, who can hold a customer audit, and who can manage a Vietnamese workforce as well as a foreign parent, is not a common profile. Add a specific process - injection moulding, electronics assembly, food processing, pharmaceutical - and the realistic national pool often comes down to a few dozen names.
That is not a reason to lower the brief. It is a reason to know the number before you start, which is what the mapping stage is for.
Roles we handle
Plant Manager / Factory Manager
Site ownership across production, maintenance, quality and people. Process type and site location drive pool depth more than any other variable.
Operations Director
Multi-site or multi-line responsibility, usually with a cost, productivity or footprint mandate attached.
Quality and Compliance leadership
Customer-audit driven roles where credibility with the auditing client matters as much as internal systems knowledge.
Engineering and Maintenance leadership
Technical depth combined with the ability to build and keep a team in a market where good technicians are mobile.
Supply Chain and Procurement
Planning, sourcing and inbound logistics, often with regional reporting lines and local execution.
General Manager, Vietnam site
Where the plant is the business. Combines operational ownership with commercial and government-facing responsibility.
Geography is a constraint, not a detail
Most manufacturing leadership candidates in the southern region live in or near Ho Chi Minh City. A site in Binh Duong or Dong Nai within commuting distance is a straightforward proposition. A site two hours out, or in a province with limited international schooling, is not - and the resistance usually surfaces as a higher salary expectation rather than as a refusal.
We will give you a view on this before the search starts. If your site location means the realistic package is fifteen or twenty percent above the band you had in mind, it is better to know that at the briefing than after three declines.
Foreign-invested and domestic sites hire differently
Foreign-invested manufacturers tend to need candidates who can operate inside a group system - reporting discipline, standardised processes, a regional matrix - and who can translate that into a Vietnamese workforce without losing either side. English requirement is usually real.
Domestic manufacturers professionalising their operations need something different: someone who can introduce systems into a business that has grown without them, usually while reporting to an owner who is still closely involved. That is as much a political task as a technical one, and we brief candidates on it honestly because the ones who are not suited will self-select out.
What we provide
A named market map before any shortlist, direct and confidential approach, written assessments that state the gaps as well as the strengths, reference checks taken from people who actually managed the candidate, and offer and resignation management through what is often a 30 to 45 day notice period.
Fees are success-based with no retainer and executive placements carry a 60-day replacement guarantee. See fees and engagement model.
